INBOUND 2017 is right around the corner and we’re sending our A-team.
Every conference and workshop we attend is a reminder of the re-energizing power that comes from hitting pause on the day-to-day to soak in the new ideas and experiences of others. Given the impressive list of speakers that HubSpot has put together for Inbound, our team is particularly excited. Learning is always a key part of any conference experience, but we’re most energized by the set of speakers whose thoughts will create valuable inspiration for us as we work to create a better company, with better culture, than ever.
As our first time attending Hubspot’s annual conference intended to inspire, educate, and connect professionals (namely marketers), we couldn’t help but wonder who our CEO and two co-founders are most excited to see at the event. Here are the presenters who made the shortlist.
Former First Lady of the United States
There are several speakers our team is particularly excited to hear speak at Inbound this year. First in line is former First Lady Michelle Obama. Through her leadership and advocacy on a wide range of issues including women’s and LGBTQ rights, she used her professional training, communication skills, and position as First Lady to move everyone forward. Though we’ll likely all have the chills the entire time she’s speaking, I can’t wait to take it all in.
We’re excited to see if she’ll discuss some fun stories about her experience post first lady, what projects she’s working on now, and what’s next for her. She’s a generational inspiration and you can bet we’ll be tweeting about the opportunity to attend her presentation.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama presents her keynote on Wednesday, September 27th at 9:00 AM.
Dharmesh Shaw & Brian Halligan
CTO & CEO and Co-Founders of Hubspot
We loved watching Dharmesh and Brian’s video from last year’s presentation and we’re enthused to see it in person this year. As founders, investors, and leaders at our own startup, we’re eager to hear Dharmesh and Brian’s keynote presentation. We’re hoping they’ll discuss what they have learned as Hubspot scaled up since 2006, how they’ve pivoted to maintain their culture as the business evolved and see how they think the martech world is shaking out.
Looking forward, we’re curious to see where Hubspot is going and what they have their sights set on for the next year. Big announcements are usually put saved for an event like this, so we’re looking forward to what Hubspot has in store.
Dharmesh and Brian present their keynote on Tuesday, September 26th 2:15 PM – 3:45 PM.
Professor at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and New York Times Bestselling Author
Adam Grant is an inspirational author who’s been able to explain how the human experience can be applied to business and life for success. His books, ‘Give and Take’, ‘Originals’, and his newest publication co-authored with Sheryl Sandberg, titled, ‘Option B’ have powerful messages about adversity, inspiring creativity to change the world. We’re eager to learn how psychology in both academic and practical business settings (particularly with big clients) is being applied today. Experience his stage presence yourself by watching his TED Talks.
We’re most eager to learn how psychology in both academic and practical business settings (particularly with big clients) is being applied today. I’d love to hear him touch on how giving (time, energy, money, connections) leads to better productivity, better interactions, and a better world. I’m sure he’s learned a lot in working with Sheryl Sandberg in writing his latest book as well. It would be fun to have a little insight into that experience.
Professor and author, Adam Grant presents his Spotlight on Tuesday, September 26th 2:15 PM – 3:45 PM.
Co-Creator and Star or HBO’s hit show, Insecure
The fourth speaker we’re excited to hear is Issa Rae. First off, she’s incredibly funny (no offense Michelle and Adam Grant, I’m sure you’re funny too). Her HBO series, Insecure, is the outcome of a ton of hustle and hard work. I can’t wait to hear firsthand about how she managed to bring an entire series to life and get it to her audience. Did I mention she’s very funny? Can’t wait!
Co-Creator and Star, Issa Rae presents her Spotlight on Wednesday, September 27th at 2:15 PM – 3:00 PM.
Co-Founder & CEO of Slack
At Rival IQ, we’ve dipped our toes into machine learning to bring more insightful data to our customers. It’s a fun and exciting time to be developing new ways to create and access data (that nobody else has) that results in marketers’ ability to make better, more informed decisions. Also, as a company that relies heavily on Slack for communications (we work remotely Monday’s and Friday’s), we want to know Stewart’s take on the future of comms at work. What will that look like?
Questions we’d love to hear answered:
- What has Slack learned from all the Slack use cases and communications? How are business people communicating? How is it different from five years ago? One year ago?!
- What are his thoughts on viral growth? What’s his take on freemium models for adoption?
- What does he have to say about bringing design and “personality” as a core function to the product development process?
Co-Founder and CEO of Slack, Stewart Butterfield presents his Spotlight, ‘Communications and the future of work’ on Wednesday, September 27th at 9:00 AM.
Billie Jean King
Sports Icon and Social Justice Pioneer & Advocate for Equality
Next up is Billie Jean King. Before hearing a recent NPR story about her 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” match against Bobby Riggs, I honestly can’t say that I knew that much about Billie Jean King. In that driveway moment listening to stories of her battle for gender equity in tennis and beyond, I knew she was someone I wanted to hear from at Inbound. As our industry continues to try to improve how we enable women to be equal, valued and compensated, I look forward to the inspiration we’re certain to hear from Billie Jean King.
Sports Icon and Social Justice Pioneer, Billy Jean King presents her Spotlight on Wednesday, September 27th 11:45 AM – 12:30 PM.
